Females who want to join the Indonesia army are subjected to a compulsory virginity test.
According to BBC, human rights activists have called on Indonesia to stop so-called virginity tests which it described as "Bonkers", "primitive" and "unscientific".
The method of testing used in Indonesia is the known as the "two-finger test". Describing the test process, recruits who have undergone the process said two fingers being used to open the vagina while one finger was placed in the anus. They described the process as embarrassing and traumatizing.
Intending brides of male soldiers are also expected to undergo the virginity test.
Explaining the importance of the test armed forces information chief Major Gen Fuad Basya, said, ''If it is not restricted this way, then someone with a bad habit will become military personnel. Soldiers are a nation's defenders. They defend a nation's sovereignty, a country's territory and security."
