Politics INEC warns against voters' registration by proxy

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nasarawa State has urged political parties to educate their followers against registration by proxy ahead of the 2015 general election.

Alhaji Ahmed Makama, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) made the plea in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lafia.

Makama said anyone caught attempting to collect voter’s card by proxy would be punished.

He said the Commission had taken necessary measures to checkmate it.

Makama explained that voters must physically appear with their temporary voter’s card before issuance of the permanent one.

He said that the commission would embark on continuous voter registration to enable those who had turned 18 years to register.
