Renowned religious scholar, Sheik Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, has blamed westernization for the scathing letter allegedly written by Senator Iyabo Obasanjo to her father, former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The Sheik said Iyabo lacked proper religious upbringing.
Gumi described the letter as apolitical, irreligious and un-African. He further said the letter was a distraction from the previous one written by her former President Obasanjo addressing very important national issues.
Gumi said, “Obasanjo is not a saint, neither is she one nor most Nigerians are. But what is worth noting is that, at a crucial time when the nation is gripped by official criminality of bloodshed, financial misappropriation, and moral decadence she now sees the opportunity to blast her father.
Gumi further argued that respecting and honoring one's parents is among the Jewish ten commandments which was also endorsed by Jesus, he backed up his argument with two bible verse (Mark 10:9 and Matthew 15:4).
