Early this morning, Nigerian Bulletin reported that 2017 UTME candidates were barred from entering the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State by the protesting students of the institution. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cancelled the examination.

Hundreds of students of the university, in protest of what they described as the irresponsibility of the two owner states of the institution, trooped out as early as 6am to barricade the campus gate, insisting that until the welfare of their lecturers is addressed and normal academic and administrative activities resumed on the campus, no UTME would hold on the campus.

NEW TELEGRAPH spoke with the Director of Press of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin. He explained that the decision was taken to avoid any of its examination candidates being injured in the process.

According to Benjamin, the candidates would be relocated to other centres soon.

He said: “We have noticed the insistence of the protesting students and it would not be safe to employ force. The candidates will be reallocated to other centres; they should monitor their emails to know where they would be posted to.”
