Ancient Asaba town and its environs were literally paralysed on Wednesday in jubilation, following news of the release of ex-Governor of Delta State, James Onanefe Ibori.

The news of his release from London prison where he had served 10-year jail term for money laundering and other offences filtered into Asaba and its environs in the early hours.

PUNCH reports that at various Quarters’ residents, Asaba youths rolled out their drums to celebrate the man they described as “Odidigborigbo.”

The youths sang Asaba-Ibo songs along Nnebisi Road, Summit Junction, Okpanam Road and Anwai Road where they danced freely to drumbeats, causing serious traffic gridlock.

Security agents and the popular Ogbeogonogo Market Women were not left out in the jubilation.

Okay. I won't comment, Bode George was also given a similar reception after leaving prison... That's Nigeria.

Most people in delta feel he has done way more than other governors that didn't loot state funds.
That's unfortunate. And I don't blame them. That's how Nigerian politics play out. Politicians entice us with cheap government programmes, and steal away, rob us off our future. Congratulations to those people.

It doesn't have a meaning, its just a slang for something very big, mighty . Just like the yorubas call tinubu - jagagban

Jagaban is a chieftaincy Title from the Borgu Kingdom, far away in Borno state. It was given to Tinubu few years ago by the deceased Emir of Borgu Kingdom.

Bola Tinubu - Jagaban of Borgu Kingdom but most people ascribed it to a BIG and Powerful person in a region.

Most people? I doubt it. Most people do not care what has been done in other states, they need to fix their immediate needs but are silenced by the establishment. Most people need to find money for rent, school fees, food, water, funerals etc. Most people do not care if he was released on not. Most people just want to live!

The issue comes from the double standards from across the country. Let us not forget it was GEJ that made this possible. Ibori was not arrested under OBJ or Yaradua. In fact he was a close associate of both men. He was ALLEGEDLY a close associate of the former vice president, the current senate president, the national leader of the ruling party and former Governor of Lagos state etc. Let us not make this about the Niger Delta but about the real problems in Nigeria. His alleged close associates are still being lauded in Nigeria.
