Last week had Seun Egbegbe, a Nollywood film producer in the news. He was beaten by an angry mob at the Computer village in Ikeja for allegedly stealing nine iPhones from a shop on Medical Road. He was consequently arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrate Court on Thursday for stealing.
According to reports, the controversial boss of Ebony Films allegedly went to Kaalcech Innovations and Consultancy located at 9, Medical Road, on Tuesday under the pretext of buying some phones.
After checking phones in the store, he allegedly ordered for five units of iPhone 6 before asking for four more units. With his car, an SUV parked nearby, Seun reportedly told the shop attendant that he wanted to bring some money from his car which had three other occupants.
However, the shop attendant was forced to raise the alarm when the car started moving away, after which a mob began to beat him before the intervention of policemen from the Area F Command in Ikeja.
But a statement he claimed to have issued in the aftermath of the incident, described reports of the incident as “laughable,” saying he was never arrested but only went to the police to “address some issues” and nothing more.
However, Nigerians on social media also reacted, prominent among them could be said was an MMM promoter.
@walking goldmine wondered: “How could you have gone to the shop to buy 9 iPhones with no money on you, then took those phones to the car bcos you needed to fetch money?
Why not leave the phones, go for the money and make payment before taking them to your vehicle?”
Another user, @queenstacyp wrote: “He was advertising for iPhone. He is now a proud brand ambassador for them… your cup will soon overflow and jungle justice will be the next. You better join MMM and stop this petty stealing.”
But amid the incidence Egbegbe's ex-lover, Toyin Aimhaku did not comment at all.
