At least eight ministers, who are expected to pursue their goals to become governors, will soon be relieved of their jobs, THISDAY learnt Thursday.

The eight ministers to be affected by the exercise, which a presidency source said might start this month, are from seven states, with Benue State accounting for two of the ministers.

The source said the decision to sack the ministers with governorship aspirations is partly responsible for the delay in filling the vacant ministerial positions that have been open since nine ministers were sacked in September.

Why should they be sacked because they want to be governors? To the obvious reasoning, they are trying to move upward on their respective career ladders.
Jonathan himself is ambitous; he's going to campaign in 2015. Why then is he indulging in a Ph. D? (pull him down)

@Lequte, when you are head of an organization, the people under you should work towards achieving your goals. If you were the employer in a company and your employees were concentrating on setting up their own companies and neglecting yours, you would sack them too. It really doesn't matter that you - the owner of the company - are focused on opening several branches all over the country.

That said, Jonathan is sacking anyone who is going to make a priority of the elections to the extent that they neglect their ministerial positions. In the news item above, it says: “You know that 2014 is the determining year for the president and therefore, he is going to relieve the ministers that have indicated interest to contest the governorship election in their respective states, in order to concentrate with the transformation in 2014.”

My only curiosity, as always, is will Stella Oduah be on the sack train?
