The English Football Association has asked Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho to explain the comments he made moments before last weekend’s match against Manchester City.
“He has until 6pm (1800 GMT) on Monday 18 December to respond,” an FA spokesperson said on Twitter.
In his final pre-game press conference, Mourinho said City’s players were prone to diving, and that it only takes a “little bit of wind” for them to go to ground.
He'd also said he did not think he would be allowed to make to make a political statement on the touchline like Guardiola, who recently wore a yellow ribbon - a symbol of protest against the imprisonment of pro-independence politicians in the Spanish region of Catalonia.
The FA is also investigating a mass brawl between both teams that erupted after their clash on Sunday. Reports say the clash was instigated by Mourinho’s complaints about the noise of City’s celebrations.
