Border and customs officials in Kyrgyzstan, have discovered a makeshift underwater pipeline which is allegedly being used to smuggle alcohol into the country from neighboring Kazakhstan.
The pipeline was discovered on the bed of the river Chu, a few kilometers from boarder checkpoint. The bed of the river Chu forms the border between the two countries.
It is suspected that millions of litres of pure spirit have passed through it.
It is unclear how the pipe was discovered, but a search for the smugglers behind the pipeline is on.
Kazakhstan is one of the biggest grain producers in central Asia, thus spirits are far more cheaper there.
