Metro Lagos Assembly Urges FG to Prevent Outbreak of Ebola Virus

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday called on the Federal Government to sensitise the public more on the Ebola virus to prevent its outbreak in Nigeria.

Mr Ajibayo Adeyeye, the Majority Leader of the House, who moved the motion at the plenary urged the government to take proactive measures in preventing the outbreak of the virus.

“We want the federal government to commence urgent public enlightenment to prevent the outbreak of the virus in the country.

“People should be aware, and be educated on the causes and effects of the virus so as to prevent it," he said.

Adeyeye (APC-Kosofe II), in his motion, also urged the people to maintain personal hygiene by washing their fruits and cooking their food properly before eating.

The majority leader also advised the government to have thorough check on visitors coming to Nigeria from countries affected by the virus.

Mr Sanai Agunbiade, (APC-Ikorodu I) in his contribution, urged the members of the house to embark on massive enlightenment in their various constituencies.

Agunbiade also advised the government to direct all the relevant agencies to improve safety at the nation's borders.

Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, the Speaker of House, urged the government to embark on urgent public enlightenment to prevent the outbreak of the virus.

The speaker said that public enlightenment could be carried out through Federal Ministry of Information.
