Two soldiers, Privates Ihama Osaretin and Okpor Ray, have been arrested by the Yaba Division of the Lagos police moments before residents of Makoko decided to kill them.
According to ThisDay, the soldiers numbering 14 had stormed Makoko on Sunday night, attacking, brutalizing and beating anyone they set their eyes upon.
Reports say the battered residents initially fled their community, but regrouped later and confronted the soldiers armed with dangerous weapons such as axes, broken bottles, iron rods, wood and cudgels.
When they attempted to overpower the soldiers, 12 of them succeeded in fleeing to safety, leaving two others behind at the mercy of the angry residents who unleashed terror on them.
Attempts to lynch the duo was aborted by two police attack patrol teams attached to Makoko Police Division, who were quickly mobilised to the scene by the Divisional Police Officer.
The quick intervention of the police saved the two privates, who they later rushed to the hospital for treatment given that they were severely injured.
