A national union of textile workers has opposed the lift of ban on importation of textiles into the country.
Workers under the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) has implored President Muhammadu Buhari to reverse the recent ban on the importation of textile and furniture products into the country.
General Secretary of the union, Comrade Issa Aremu, said at a press briefing in Lagos on Thursday that the development was necessary because the manner with which the ban on textile products was removed by the government was illegal, and amounts to policy impunity on the part of the government
He said the latest action of the government would neither protect infant textile industry nor do the nation’s economy any substantial benefits.
