The Police in Enugu have arraigned Clement Oko, 47 and Chiamazue Oko, 14, of Enugu South Local Government Area in an Enugu Magistrates’ Court for alleged attempted rape and assault.
The accused persons were arraigned on Wednesday for attempting to rape and assault a three- year-old child.
When the matter came up for hearing, the Police Prosecutor, Mr Emmanuel Akpa, told the court that the matter was reported to the Awkunanaw police station on March 15 by one Ngozi Nnamani.
Akpa told the court that the first accused assaulted the child by using his fist to blow her which caused injury. He said that the second accused, son to the first accused, allegedly attempted to rape her.
The accused, who are facing a two-count charge of attempted rape and assault, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
The Counsel to the accused persons, Mr P O Ezenwani, pleaded with the court to grant his clients bail since the offences were bailable.
Ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Uche Mogbo, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N10, 000 each and one surety for each accused in like sum. Mogbo said that the sureties should not be below Grade Level 10 and should be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
She adjourned the matter until April 9 for continuation of hearing.
