Depending on your financial means and interest, there are low-end as well as high-end vehicles. Whereas getting a car will go a long way easing the burden of mobility, what is more important is getting one that will be suitable for you and with little or no hassle.

Nigeria has one of the largest numbers of car owners in Africa, but with the poor state of infrastructure, driving in Nigeria can be a nightmare. Most of our roads are in a terrible state, thereby making people opt for SUVs as a means of mitigating the deplorable situation. There are SUVs in the low-end as well as high-end category, and the new Range Rover Sport is in this category. This will be the main subject of our review in this article.

Range Rover Sports Review

The Range rover sport is a mid to high-end SUV produced by one of the world’s most respected automobile manufacturers – Land Rover. The new Range rover sport comes in a spottier look than the Discovery model, in addition, it weighs far less and has significant chunk of its weight taken off.

Design and Styling

When it comes to design and styling, the Range Rover sport is in a class of its own. In the Discovery model, the steel hybrid monocoque was developed and included in its design. The present Range rover SUV chose to go back to its roots and use the aluminum platform, which was the prominent feature in the original Range Rover. Although there’s a noticeable increase in the dimension of the Range rover sport, the Sport still looks nimble, compact when compared to original Range Rover. The suspension for the Range rover sport is through the aluminum multi-links and double wishbone, along with its continuously variable dampers and height-adjustable air springs.

Interior

Needless to say, the interior design of the Range rover sport is top notch and exquisite. The cabin of the Range Rover sport is spacious, stylish and lavish, and more attractive than most German made premium SUVs. Included in the front cabin is a joy stick gear selector and climate control switch gear, which are compulsory features in SUVs such as this. The Touchscreen multimedia system is superb, and can be navigated using its touch sensitive touchpads. Connecting your phone to its Bluetooth system is extremely easy and seamless, which is important for those that constantly need to keep in touch with their contacts on-the-go.

Performance

When you initially try to purchase the Range Rover sport, you’ll be given two options – The Supercharged V8 and the Turbo Charged V-6 diesel engine models. Just like the V8 engines most of us are familiar with, the acceleration is top notch. The SD V-6 turbo charged diesel engine version isn’t all that quick at start, like most diesel engines, you’ll need to be patient with it for it to hit its stride. The V8 equipped SUVs was able to hit 0-60mph in 6.8secs compared to the V-6’s 7.8secs for the same distance.

Ride and Handling

The Range rover sport sits on airsprings, which plays a significant role in its balance. Most base-powered Sport come with 19-inch alloy wheels, but there is an option for those who would love to feature the 20-inch alloys. The kerb weight of the sport gives it that gracious balance at urban speeds, helping it ease away portholes – which is a usual feature on our roads, and other surface imperfections in grace and style. In terms of ride and comfort, the Sport does better than Mercedes ML and the Porsche Cayenne. Steering and controls are great and sleek especially in winding roads or when you need avoid obstacles.

The Verdict

The new Range Rover Sport is a very versatile, rugged and classy. The grace it exudes when it hits the road is out this world. The kind of roads we have in this country is what the Range rover sport was designed to handle, although the manufacturer wouldn’t envisaged it would be this bad. The average price of the new Range Rover Sport SUV falls within the price range of N15,000,000 to N16,000,000, which is quite pricey and out of the reach of most Nigerians – most of whom live on less than a dollar a day. Definitely The SUV makes a good buy for those that can afford it and also pack with it the prestige and respect we value in this part of the world.
