Former Super Eagles coach,Christian Chukwu said that the antics of Malawi in the last one week, shows that they are scared of playing against Nigeria.
Malawi last weekend reported Nigeria to FIFA,complaining about insecurity in Calabar and requested that the game be taken away from the city.
Chukwu said the Malawians are just playing mind games and trying to put Nigeria under pressure, before the game next month.
“There is nothing wrong with Calabar as a venue for the match. We have been playing our games in Calabar and there has never been any case of violence or threat to life before, during and after our games,” Chukwu was quoted as saying on The Punch.
“We know what Saintfiet is trying to do. He is scared and knows he will fail; the Flames of Malawi will be quenched on that day. He needs to find a ready excuse for his employers before failing in Nigeria.”
“When we went to Malawi for the first leg, we accepted all that they offered to us. We didn’t complain. If Calabar seem unsafe, Saintfiet is not the one to call for the change of venue.”
“If they feel they cannot withstand the defeat, they should just not bother to come to Nigeria and we’ll be glad to walk over them,” Chukwu added.
Nigeria will host Malawi on September 7 for either of the team to nail the final spot for the playoffs.
The Super Eagles leads Malawi by two points and needs to avoid losing in the game,to go through to the last round.
