Sports Man City now six points behind Chelsea after beating Southampton 3-0

Manchester City have moved into second position in the English Premier League after securing a convincing 3-0 victory over Southampton.

The win punctured the impressive run of Southampton who have now plunged into third position after losing at Saint Mary's.

Considering that Chelsea drew yesterday, the table has now once more opened up, with the defending champions now six points behind the league leaders.

Both teams played out a barren first 45 minutes, but it was in the second half that the actions really came out.

City's strength manifested when they went in front in the second half through Yaya Toure.

Often accused this season for his tepid performances for City, Yaya drilled in Sergio Aguero's teed ball to open the scores for his side.

However City were made to live dangerously for the last 16 minutes of the game after Eliaquim Mangala received two yellow cards and was subsequently sent off.

Rather than make City edgy, it spurred them and they found the second goal through Frank Lampard.

The goal was his 174th Premier League goal, further fueling speculation that his loan deal will be extended by Manchester City before he links up with New York FC next year.

City's win was complete when Gael Clichy finished up a nice counter attack move, scoring with his right foot, only his second goal in 273 games in the Premier League.

Southampton with the defeat, have now been beaten at home for the first time this season.

While City leapfrogs them into second position and are now breathing down on Chelsea, six points behind the Blues.
