A 42-year-old man, Obasuyi Williams, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail with hard labour, by an Oredo Magistrates’ Court, Edo state, southern Nigeria, for stealing a 5-year-old girl in Benin.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Thomas Ojo, had told the court that the convict committed the crime on 15 May, 2014, at Osaretin Street, Off Ehaekpen Road in Benin.
Ojo said the offence is punishable Under Section 371 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 48 Vol. II, Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable to Edo state.
Pronouncing judgment on the convict, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. J.O. Ejale, sentenced the convict to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour.
