Croatia's Marin Cilic has won his first Grand Slam title after defeating Kei Nishikori in Monday's final at Flushing Meadow to win the men's US Open title.
Cilic came through in straight sets 6-3 6-3 6-3 to defeat his Japanese counterpart in the final.
Nishikori looked exhausted from his previous epic thrillers en-route the final, with Cilic fully capitalizing to overcome the 24-year old.
Coming back from a one-year ban which was later reduced by the Court of Arbitration for Sports(CAS),it was something like a respite for Cilic to win a Grand Slam title.
He now becomes the second man to break the big four circle and win a Grand Slam title this year,Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka who won the Australian Open the other player.
