NIGERIA - The Vanguard newspaper reports that the Movement for the Emancipation of he Niger Delta, MEND, may have been hit with a crisis as its former leader Reuben Wilson has come out to state that Nigerian should ignore any news of it endorsing Buhari.
According to him, the ex-militants remained pro-President Goodluck Jonathan in the coming elections.
However, Jomo Gbomo, speaker of the group, tore into the PDP and the Ijaw Youth Congress (IYC) for calling MEND a 'ghost organization' for supporting Buhari.
According to Gbomo “MEND views the recent question and statement credited to the PDP National publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, as very callous and irresponsible. The question: ‘Explain your connections with MEND’ further confirms and vindicates our views about President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP.
“MEND strongly denies any links with the APC and has never been approached for anything, at any point in time, by the party, as alleged by Olisa Metuh.”
Wilson however, maintained that Nigerians should ignore any news of MEND endorsing Buhari, describing the stories as APC propaganda.
Wilson, now a pastor, said: “MEND ceased to exist from the day we all keyed into the amnesty programme of the Federal Government.”
