Lionel Messi’s new contract with Barcelona, will see him earn around £500,000-a-week after tax, a huge pay rise which takes him above Cristiano Ronaldo as the highest-paid player in Europe.
Messi is currently on £365,000-a-week, but the club have offered him an increase of 37%, as they seek to tie the 29-year-old down.
The deal will elapse in 2021, with his release clause rising to a massive £350million.
Messi’s current contract is set to expire in 2018, but the player has stated that he wants to remain at the Camp Nou.
“It’s what I always dreamed and what I always wanted. I would like to finish my career at Barcelona,” Messi told Tencent Sports.
The Argentina captain has been at Barcelona since he was 13.
He was La Liga’s top scorer last season with 37 goals in 34 games.
