Barcelona playmaker,Lionel Messi, has been selected in the Argentine squad that will face Italy in an international friendly next month in Rome.
Messi will captain Argentina in the game against Italy, meant to honour Pope Francis,Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who is incidentally from Argentina.
The new Pope is a staunch football fan and supports Argentine clubside San Lorenzo.
Coach Alejandro Sabella on Tuesday announced a strong 22-man squad, that will be involved in the game, with Argentina using the game not only to honour the new Pope, but to also prepare for the final phase of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
Argentina currently tops the South American group, and almost certain to be in Brazil next year.
The game between both countries will be played in Rome on August 14,days before various European leagues will commence.
