It has been almost a year since Microsoft launched Windows 10, which was regarded as many as a significant improvement of Windows 8. The upcoming anniversary signifies two things. One, an anniversary update on the way. Second, it means that the Windows 10 free upgrade offer ends. After the date, it will cost about $119.

As per the update which has been dubbed The Anniversary Update, there are lots of new features to be expected

Improved Cortana

It has been a big trend across the tech industry this entire year, Microsoft's voice-activated assistant Cortana is becoming an even more integral part of the operating system. On Windows 10-powered devices, Cortana will soon sit above the lock screen. That means you won't have to sign in to your device in order to interact with Cortana. It's a nice time saver - although the idea is already in place on Android and iOS.

Windows Ink

The Windows Ink, which is set to make a full public debut in the Anniversary update, is a set of pen-driven experiences to help consumers set ideas in motion with their pen. Windows Ink was designed to make people more aware of the inherent benefits of using the digital pen. It has a workspace that brings together all the ink-powered features and apps on the PC. Like Cortana, much of the Window's Ink appeal would be that you do not need to unlock the device in other to use it. You just click the pen and begin writing on the screen.

More Users For Microsoft Hello

For a while, Hello has been able to log a user into a Windows 10 device just by recognizing their face (or fingerprint). Now Microsoft hopes to expand that capability to websites. Head of Windows, Mr Mehdi said he envisions a time when consumers can sign in to their favourite websites using their faces rather than a password - an obvious improvement at a time when security experts are questioning the long-term suitability of passwords. The function works within the Edge browser. However, according to Mr Mehdi, web developers will only have to add a small amount of code in order to enable Hello log-ins on their site.

All in all, the Microsoft Windows team are pretty excited about the upgrade and its interesting features. It remains to be seen if others - i.e users and developers will be as excited as they are when the update launches.
