The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, yesterday said that troops, in the ongoing military offensive in the North-East, have killed scores of Boko Haram insurgents and lost five soldiers in air and land assaults. The DHQ in a statement in Abuja signed by the Director of Defence Information, DDI, Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, said that troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force repelled attempts to attack communities by hungry terrorists who besieged the communities around the Lake Chad area in search of food.

It also disclosed that cordon- and-search operations for stranded terrorists was ongoing in those communities adding that arms abandoned by the fleeing insurgents were recovered.

The DHQ said that the repelling of the attacks was successful due to the timely distress call to the troops on patrol around the area, who quickly responded and saved the communities.

Part of the statement reads: “The terrorists who were said to be heavily armed scampered for safety on sensing the approach of troops before they could carry out their mission.
