MTN Nigeria, Africa's mobile telecommunication giant has released a statement over the planned data tariff review as the telecommunication regulator halt the process.

MTN in a broadcast message to its subscribers nationwide on Monday, November 28th acted on the Nigerian Communications Commission's directive to increase data tariff.

But in a statement on Thursday, the company said: “Esteemed customer, we are not proceeding with the planned data tariff review at this time. Dial *131# to enjoy great value on the MTN network. Thank You”.

Recall that the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, had also on Wednesday claimed ignorance of the move by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, directing telecommunications companies to increase data tariff, effective from December 1.

Shittu said this while speaking on the Fact File on Raypower that he got to know of the development the same way Nigerians did.
