Mobile Telecommunication giants, MTN has claimed it sustains 50% of the value chain jobs provided by the Nigerian Telecommunication industry.
According to the Group CEO of MTN, Sifiso Dabengwa, the telecommunications industry in Nigeria employs over one million Nigerians in their value chain and over 500,000 are employed through MTN alone.
He made this known at the media breakfast parley organized by the Nigeria South African Chamber of Commerce (NSACC) in Lagos last Thursday. He also said that telecoms is the fastest growing contributor to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Nigeria. For example, 10 percent average quarterly growth was recorded in 2014 and telcos also contributed 8.2 percent of Nigeria's GDP (N6.62 trillion) in 2013.
Dabengwa stated that the telecoms industry has accelerated socio-economic growth in Nigeria, adding that all sectors (education, banking'financial services, agriculture, entertainment, and health etc.) leveraged on communication unparalleled social overhead infrastructure.
