Mrs Rukayat Aliyu of Osere area, Ilorin, on Thursday appealed to an Ilorin Area Courtto grant her divorce because her husband was only interested in drinking palmwine and playing draft.
Rukayat told the court that her husband of five years was jobless and did not bother to search for a job. She said, "My husband prefers playing draft and drinking palm wine with friends instead of searching for job.
"My husband has refused to struggle on his own and has not been contributing a penny to ensure the survival of the family. My husband has become a burden to me.
Begging for another chance, the husband told the court, "I have tried searching for a job but my efforts proved abortive. My wife has been humiliating and disgracing me for not doing anything.
"I promise to put in more efforts to get a job for the sake of my family. My wife has been trying for the family.
The case was adjourned till April 3 to give the couple time for reconciliation.
