The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2013 November/December Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results with the 61, 759 candidates securing 53.81% Credit Pass in Mathematics and 60% Credit Pass in Chemistry. However, they recorded less than 50% in other core subjects that include 48.77% Credit Pass in English Language, 34.27% in Biology, 1.07% in Physics, and 9.89% pass in Geography.

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Professor Promise Okpala, announcing the results told journalists at the counils’ headquarters in Minna, Niger State, that the examination body also recorded less than 1 % in exam mal-practices at the national level, through what he describes as the paintaking efforts of the council.

He stated that records had shown an improvement in the results of the external exams over the past three years as comparative analysis clearly depicts, saying in Mathematics, 44.74 had Credit Passes in 2011, 54.79% in 2012, 53.81% in 2013, while in English, 10.03 in 2011, 33.89% in 2012 and 48.77% in 2013, respectively. In Chemistry, he said, 5.73% Credit Passes were recorded by candidates in 2011, 30.17% in 2012, 60.86% in 2013, just as 30.26 scored Credit Pass in Economics, 33.57% in 2012 and 62.87% in 2013, among other subjects.

The analysis of malpractice cases shows that only 0.14 per cent was recorded by the Council during the examination, a suituation which the Registrar attributed to the doggedness of the security agencies and those who monitored the examination.
