Speaking at his maiden news conference yesterday in Abuja, President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Dr. Ayuba Wabba, has said that the N18,000 minimum wage adopted for civil workers is no longer realistic, considering the nation’s economic situation.

He said with the devaluation of the Naira by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the purchasing power of the average worker had reduced.

According to him, it's time FG reviewed the minimum wage, listing the negative impact of the falling global price of crude oil at the international market on the country’s economy as cogent reasons.

He also added that NLC would dialogue with the Federal Government and other employers of labour to protect the workers’ interest.
