The Bakassi Strike Force, a militant group in the Niger Delta region has begged Nigerian authorities for amnesty, Punch reports.
Members of the group, which operates in Akwa-Ibom and Cross River States, said they're ready to stop further hostilities on oil facilities and accept amnesty.
According to a statement signed by the Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre of Operation Delta Safe, Lt Col. Olaolu Marcellinus Daudu the militant group through their leader, Benjamin Ene, had already turned in a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and an AK 47 rifle to signify the group’s readiness.
This follows series of military attacks on their suspected hideouts which saw many of them arrested and several others killed during gun battles with soldiers.
