Amid the oldies in the Nigeria's Senate, there are some of them that are considerably young - in their 40s. Their foray into politics have been from an early age, while some of them found their feet in politics leveraging on political appointments. These Senators include:

Sen. Nyako Abdul-Aziz, 46 years

1. Sen. Isah Hamma Misau – 43yrs, Bauchi Central – Currently 43, Senator Isah Hamma Misau (APC, Bauchi Central) is one of Nigeria's youngest serving senators. A retired police officer, Misau, chairs the Senate Committee on Navy. In a recent interview, Misau explained that he relates very well other older senators, and give them maximum respect because of their records in government and politics. And as well, the older senators don’t look down on him. They give him the opportunity to voice out his feelings, both in the chambers and during committee sittings.

2. Sen. DINO Melaye – 43 Years, Kogi West – Melaye is one of Nigeria's youngest serving senators and most controversial. Born in the city of Kano, Melaye was a Student union leader at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria before leading the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). He was a member In the House of Representatives, where he openly opposed President Jonathan Goodluck, calling his government the most corrupt one in Nigeria.

In the 2015 Senatorial election he was elected a member of the Senate of Nigeria from the Kogi West Senatorial District. He seconded the nomination of Senator Bukola Saraki as candidate for the office of President of the Senate following a nomination made by Senator Ahmad Sani Yerima. Melaye’s political career has not been spared of scandals and accusations. Recently, he was involved in various certificates scandals in 2017 including his claim to have obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography from Ahmadu Bello University and a degree from the prestigious Boston-based Ivy League Harvard University in the United States. He claimed to have obtained the degree but not yet verified.

3. Sen. NYAKO ABDUL-AZIZ Adamawa, 46 Years - Abdul-Aziz Murtala Nyako is the incumbent Senator of Adamawa state. With over 15 years of leadership experience in the Nigerian Navy, and an appointment as the Sarkin Matasa Adamawa (Youth Leader of Lamido Kingdom) in 2013. In 2013, Abdul-Aziz launched himself into partisan politics when he joined the ANPP. Nyako was among the key figures who successfully formed his party, the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa state.

4. Sen. SULEIMAN NAZIF – Bauchi – 47 years
- Born on 14 April 1970, Suleiman Nazif was elected Senator for the Bauchi North constituency of Bauchi State, on the platform on Action Congress. He was nominated to go to the U.S. as a guest of their government to witness the inauguration of President Barack Obama. However, when he arrived at Washington Dulles International Airport he was told his visa was not in order and was not allowed to enter the country. In a mid-term evaluation of Senators in May 2009, ThisDay said that he had not sponsored any bill but co-sponsored some bills, including the Nigerians Railway Corporation (Repeal and Reenactment) Bill 2008. He co-sponsored fifteen motions and made brilliant contributions to debates in plenary.

Nazif was a contender to become governor of Bauchi State in the 28 April 2011 elections, running on the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP) platform. He came fourth with 102,093 votes, losing to the incumbent Governor Isa Yuguda, who won 771,503 votes.

5. Sen. PHILIPS TANIMU Aduda– FCT State, 48 Years – Tanimu served two terms in the national House of Representatives between 2003 and 2011, and was elected to the Senate for the Abuja Federal Capital Territory in the 9 April 2011 elections, running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) ticket.

6. Sen. Olamilekan Adeola – 47, years, Lagos West - Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, also known by the alias Yayi (born August 10, 1969), is the Senator representing Lagos West and Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, he is also a chartered accountant, and a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).

Following his decision to join active politics, sometimes at the dawn of the 4th Republic, Adeola was nominated and won the primary of the then ruling Action Congress of Nigeria and was elected as a member to represent Alimosho State Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2007 to 2011. He was reputed to have been instrumental to the enactment of the law that strengthened the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, a legislation that catapulted the revenue of the state from N5billion monthly to over N20billion. He was also part of the team that passed the Fiscal Responsibility Act and the Public Procurement Act of Lagos State.

He was elected to the Federal Legislature to represent Alimosho Federal Constituency at the Nigerian House of Representatives in 2011. And when the committees of the House were inaugurated by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal for members, he got position of the chairman of the only constitutional committee, the Public Accounts Committee of the House. He got the post as a first time member of the House. He is now a Senator and is the Vice Chairman of Senate Committee on Communications as well as member of the Finance, Marine, Interior and Science and Technology committees of the Senate.

7. Senator Babajide Omoworare, Osun East, 48yrs, APC – Christopher Omoworare Babajide (born 31 October 1968) is a Nigerian politician who was elected Senator for the Osun East constituency of Osun State, Nigeria in the April 2011 and March 28, 2015 elections. He ran on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

Omoworare successfully ran for election for the Ifako-Ijaiye constituency of the Lagos State House of Assembly in January 1999, running on the Alliance for Democracy platform. He was reelected in 2003, and became Majority Leader and chairman of the Business Rules and Standing Orders Committee. In the April 2007 national elections he was the Action Congress candidate for the Osun East Senatorial seat. The election was marred by electoral malpractices and violence, and was nullified in October 2009 by the Court of Appeal, Ibadan. Omoworare and Action Congress in Osun State abstained from the rerun election of December 23, 2009.

In the April 2011 elections for the Osun East Senatorial seat, Omoworare polled 119,852 votes, running on the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) platform, ahead of Senator Iyiola Omisore of the PDP who received 51,315 votes. He is the vice-chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs (with oversight functions over some agencies under the presidency). He is also a member of the following Senate Committees –Rules and Business, Judiciary, Petroleum (Upstream), Health and Sports. His cardinal focus includes constitutional reforms (including Judiciary, Police and Prisons) and youth empowerment.

As a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Babajide Omoworare has sponsored five bills, which include the “Prison Decongestion Bill”, which is now waiting for presidential assent and co-sponsored many other bills and motions.

8. Senator Mohammed Hassan, 48 Years, Yobe South, PDP – Hassan is a native of Yobe state. He had his Bachelors Degree, and Masters Degree at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. His Legislative interest is Oversight.
