Borno state residents are claiming that over 236 people died when a jet of the Nigeria Air Force "mistakenly" dropped a bomb on an IDP camp in Rann area of the state.

Earlier reports from Doctors Without Borders, MSF, had put the figure at 90 with the possibility of rising to 170.

"From what the people who buried the dead victims with their hands told me, not those who treated the wounded, they buried 234 dead," Babagana Malarima, president of Kala-Balge LGA, where Rann is located, said.

"And I later got a report that two of the injured taken to Maiduguri died," he added.

Six Red Cross volunteers also died, with 13 others injured.
