In a series of tweets hashtagged #BeforeAndDuringJonathan, Reno Omokri wrote about the state of things in the country before President Jonathan assumed power, comparing them with the present situation.

His tweets begin thus: “Yes, we face an insurgency this government didn’t cause but is addressing, but that doesn’t stop us celebrating positive things happening in Nigeria.”

He observed that before President Jonathan, Nigeria’s food import bill was 1.1 trillion naira, compared to today’s 680 billion.

“Before President Jonathan,” says Omokri, “50,000 Ghost Workers drew 139 billion annual salaries from the Civil Service. Today, it is history.

“Before President Jonathan, Nigeria's UN-verified Average Life Expectancy was 47 years, today it is 52 years.

“Before President Jonathan signed the Local Content Act, only 60 Nigerian tankers transported crude. Today, it is 400.

Before President Jonathan, Nigerian Railways was moribund. Today, they are shifting 5 million passengers per annum.

“Before President Jonathan, middlemen sold fertilizers to farmers. Today, 6 million farmers get fertilizer direct from the government. Before President Jonathan, Nigeria was suffused by Guinea Worm. Under President GEJ, the UN has certified Nigeria guinea worm-free. For 19 years, Nigeria could not win at the Africa Cup of Nations. Under President Jonathan, we are the reigning champions.

“Before President Jonathan, it took 8 hours to drive from Lagos to Benin. Under President GEJ, that journey takes 4 hours. Before President Jonathan, Nigeria was a net importer of cement. Under President GEJ, Nigeria is a net exporter of cement.

“Before President Jonathan Nigeria did not have a single formal Almajiri school. Today, there are 125 models completed.

“Before President Jonathan, Nigeria had only 27 Federal Universities. Today, EVERY Nigerian state has one.

“Before President Jonathan, only 25% of students had 5 credits and above. Today, over 60% have 5 credits and above.

“Before President Jonathan, enrollment in Colleges of Education was 500k. Today 750k people are enrolled.”

Winding down, the president’s Special Assistant on New Media said, “So when next politwitters tell you President Jonathan hasn’t achieved anything, challenge them with the facts I adduced.”
