Nigerian Senate on Tuesday resolved to investigate the Nigerian Customs in order to identify leakages and irregularities leading to dwindling revenues in the country.

Recall that the Senate through its committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff has uncovered how automobile giant, Volkswagen Nigeria Limited has been importing its brand of vehicles rather than assembling them in Nigeria.

The committee also discovered over 1000 uncleared containers in Ikorodu owned by Delta and Jigawa states government, which have been at the Customs Service and Nigeria Port Authority’s custody for the past 10 years.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki said 'that place is stinking; just last week we heard the former Customs Boss returned N1Billion. The NCS should be investigated"

The law making organ therefore mandated it's Customs Committee to investigate the Nigeria Customs Service to identify leakages and irregularities leading to dwindling revenues.

DSP Ekweremadu commended the Senate on its continued focus on not just expenditure but also revenue. He says it's time to look at NCS' books.

Senate also noted Cargo Handling procedures violating the CEMA Act Provisions leading to loss of massive revenue and pain on importers.
