President Goodluck Jonathan according to the BBC says most of the violence in Gombe yesterday was not directly related to the elections.
A member of Gombe State House of Assembly, Alhaji Umar Aminu (APC), and eight others were feared killed by insurgents on Saturday in the state.
"The war against terrorists is going on, voting or no voting," he said. "There was a conflict, kind of a crossfire, between soldiers and terrorists that had nothing to do with the elections."
It remains unclear whether the attacks were the work of Boko Haram militants or political thugs
