Telecoms giant, MTN has paid N80 billion out of the N330 billion fine imposed on by the Federal Government of Nigeria for failing to deactivate more than five million unregistered SIM cards on its network.
According to Minister of Communications Adebayo Shittu the money paid is for the first year of the three years it is expected to complete the payment.
MTN was initially fined 5.2 billion dollars (N1.04 trillion) for the infraction but it was reduced to N330 billion.
