It is likely the Nigeria Communications Commission, NCC, will for the second time reduce the fine it meted out to MTN, for not disconnecting some lines on its network.
The agency had fined MTN $5.2bn and later on slashed it to $3.9bn after MTN took the matter to court. A Reuters report suggests the fines will most likely be reduced but did not disclose by how much.
“There’s growing understanding within the NCC that the fine should be commercially reasonable,” a source close to the matter said.
Another source revealed that a further reduction from $3.9 billion was a “possibility” because “the tone of the NCC is not combative anymore.”
