No progress was made on Thursday in the N300m fundamental rights enforcement suit filed against the Inspector-General of Police by Nigerian kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a. Evans.

Justice Abdulaziz Anka and the Federal High Court in Lagos was supposed to hear the case but it couldn't proceed as Evans’ lawyer, Mr. Olukoya Ogungbeje, was absent.

Although Ogungbeje had written to the court, seeking an adjournment on the grounds of ill health but the justice awarded a punitive cost of N20,000 against him for unprofessional conduct.

“The court has noted the conduct of counsel, who wrote to the court without copying other parties. This is unprofessional. The court hereby warns the counsel to desist from such a conduct", he added.

In his fundamental rights enforcement suit, Evans, through Ogungbeje, is seeking a court order directing the police to charge him to court immediately or release him on bail.

He'd demanded N300m as damages.
