Following the AP report that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has decided to postpone the 2015 general elections, speculations are rife as to the underlying reasons for this.
An INEC official has told the Associated Press that the commission decided on a six-week postponement due to the Boko Haram threat.
Continuing, the source added the extension of the date would give time for a newly constituted multinational force to provide security in the North-East, which has been under Boko Haram siege in the last few years.
It would also give the commission the time to distribute more PVCs to citizens to reduce the disenfranchisement problem.
The commission itself is yet to make the official announcement itself.
