The Nigerian Army has constituted a Board of Enquiry to probe the circumstances that led to the death of the Commanding Officer (CO) of 272 Task Force Tank Battalion, Lt- Col. Mohammed Abu-Ali, and six soldiers in action.

Ali was killed during an encounter with Boko Haram fighters in Mallam Fatori, Northern BornoState, on November 4. Soldiers, who lost their lives during the attack, were: Sergeants Muazu Ibrahim. Hussani Jafaru, Bassey Okon, Cpl Chukwu Simon, Able Seaman Patrick Paul, (Nigerian Navy), and Pte Salisu Lawal.

Telegraph gathered from military sources, that the Army authorities have since directed the Provost Marshal, to set up a panel of enquiry charged with the responsibility of unravelling the circumstances surrounding the incident. One of the sources, who spoke in confidence, said the directive for the establishment of a probe panel, is in line with military tradition.

It was further gathered that Officers from the Military Police and Intelligence Unit, will constitute the Board. “In line with our time honoured tradition, there is a directive already for an Enquiry Board to be put in place, to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of our officer and soldiers.

“Let me remind you that the directive is normal;the Nigerian Army cares and feels the pain of every officer or soldier killed in action.”
