The Nigerian Community in Cote d’Ivoire has announced the postponement of its central leadership election to March 2014.

Mr Chidi Okafor, the Chairman, Election Committee said on Friday that the shift in the date was to allow the committee do a thorough job that would ensure full participation of all members.

Okafor said the election was initially scheduled for November but was postponed to enable the committee address some emerging issues before the elections.

He also said that a draft guideline for the election, which was sent to the central leadership for scrutiny and approval, had suffered some form of delay.

According to him, the committee was further compelled to postpone the election following the closeness of the election to Christmas season.

Okafor listed the positions to be contested for to include the office of the President, Vice President, Secretary-General and Assistant Secretary-General.

Others are the positions of the Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations Officer and three Ex-officio members.

He urged Nigerians living in the country to support and participate in the process of electing a new central community leadership.
