Metro Nigerian Lawyer Docked For Violating Traffic Laws

A lawyer was yesterday arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 2, over alleged reckless driving that claimed the life of a Syrian national.

The prosecutor, A.O Urom, a lawyer in the office of the FCT Commissioner of Police, who prosecuted the accused, Mrs. Victoria Christopher, had told the court that on April 1, at about 13:30hrs, a radio message was received from the control room of FCT Police Command that one Mrs. Victoria Christopher of National Boundary Commission Abuja, a driver of a Toyota Matrix with the registration number BN 227 RSH car, drove in a reckless manner and knocked down one Somar Tin Aishaiba, a Syria national who was riding a power bike.

The prosecutor said the Syrian sustained head injury and was rushed to Maitama General Hospital for medical attention but was later transferred to National Hospital, Abuja where he died 5 days later.

The accused, who was arraigned on a two count-charge of causing death by dangerous driving and careless and inconsiderate driving under sections 27 and 29 of the Road Traffic Acts (R.T.A), pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
