Nigerian Senate under the leadership of Dr. Bukola Saraki on Tuesday, June 14, began consideration to alter the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, passing 13 bills for second reading in seven minutes.
The decision was taken on the floor of the Senate during plenary as it was referred to the committee on constitutional review chaired by Ike Ekweremadu, the deputy Senate president.
Some of them include:
1. A bill for an act to alter the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and for other related matters, 2016 (SB.28).
2. A bill for an act to alter the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and for other related matters, 2016 (SB.130),
3. A bill for an act to alter the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and for other related matters, 2016 (SB.178) among others.
Although the details of the 13 bills are still sketchy as at the time of this report, the committee may decide to reel out the details during the public hearing.
