Nigerians have expressed shock over Indian-packaged garri being sold in Lagos.

The garri is packed in a 500g bag with an inscription of ‘TRS’ (Asia’s Finest Foods) has been the talk of the town, with a price tag of N450.

According to reports, the garri imported garri from India and selling in shops in Nigeria carried the number of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC.

PUNCH quoted the Executive Director, Natural Nutrient Limited, Sola Adeniyi as saying: “We are indeed in a big mess in this nation. Can you imagine imported garri from India now selling in shops in Nigeria and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control approved this?

He said, “Our government and regulatory agencies (if they still exist) should cover their faces in shame. I would like to ask: how much were you paid in bribe? Is this how far we are mentally bankrupt?

The agribusiness development value chain expert said the sale of the Indian-packaged garri in Nigeria is an absurdity of monumental proportion and a shame.

Recall that imported packaged jollof rice from India flood the country late 2016 before the Nigerian Customs and NAFDAC acted swiftly upon.
