Sahara Reporters have stated that following a refusal by the top echelon of the Nigerian military yesterday to have a joint meeting with Nigeria's new minister of Defense Aliyu Gusau and his deputy Musiliu Obanikoro, the defense minister has now resigned.

Mr. Gusau is, himself, a retired army general.
