On Wednesday, the Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko described his reported plan to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as "a rumour". The denial follows the official return of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Labour Party (LP) . DAILY TRUST has this story.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) yesterday formally returned to the Labour Party (LP) which they formed in 2002 as Party for Social Democracy (PSD). This is as the Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko denied defecting from the LP to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking yesterday in Abuja at the end of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, national chairman of LP, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, said reports that Mimiko has dumped LP remain a rumour as evidenced by Mimiko’s attendance at the NEC meeting of the party. He said that he would step down as the party’s chairman and not seek re-election after being the chairman since 2004.

After the NEC meeting which had Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, the NLC president and other labour union leaders as well as the Trade Union Congress (TUC) represented by its ex-officio and former President Comrade Peter Esele in attendance, Governor Mimiko in a short response to reporters’ question on his defection simply replied: “It is all rumours and I do not react to rumours.”
