A spokesperson for Egypt’s interim government has denied earlier reports that members of the Islamist group were offered ministerial posts.
Ahmed El-Muslimany , Egyptian presidential media adviser said the reports of a ministerial deal were unfounded. In response to the earlier reports, El-Muslimany also said that the government did not offer to release several of the Brotherhood’s jailed members, neither did it offer to unfreeze the group's assets as part of a deal to end the political crisis.
The Muslim Brotherhood and its supporters have continued to hold sit-ins in Cairo and Giza since 28 June demanding former President Mohammed Mursi, who is a member of the Brotherhood, be reinstated.
