Northern Nigeria Christian Politicians (NNCP) on Thursday said those behind Southern Kaduna killings were foot soldiers of President Muhammadu Buhari’s political opponents.
He said the mastermind were bent on discrediting the Buhari-led administration ahead of 2019 general elections.
The chairman of NNCP, Hon. Keftin Amuga, at a press briefing in Abuja, claimed that the attacks were not being carried out by herdsmen.
Amuga alleged that political opponents in their desperation were seeking to jeopardize the genuine invitation by Buhari for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
“The NNCP is grieved over the Southern Kaduna crisis and those in neighboring Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau and Taraba states and condemns it in its entirety.
“We, therefore, demand that the federal government arrests and prosecutes both the masterminds and the foot soldiers,” Amuga said.
He urged stakeholders, including northern governors, traditional rulers, religious leaders, groups and political elite to join hands to end the crisis.
Amuga also applauded the decision of the president in turning down the senate’s recommendation to sack Engr. Babachir David Lawal as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), as “doing so could have compromised due process and created a precedence that could become an albatross.”
