10 states in Northern Nigeria has reported a marked rise in the number of snake bite cases in the region, according to Dr Abubakar Balla, the Medical Officer in Charge of Snake Bite Treatment and Research Centre, Kaltungo, Gombe State.

He said, "On the average, the centre records 10 to 11 patients daily. The hospital wards were designed to contain only 44 patients. At the moment, there are 73 patients in the centre.’’

Thankfully, according to Dr. Balla, there seems to be no shortage of anti-venom treatment enabled to cater to all types of snake bite cases brought to the hospital.
