An Abuja Grade 1 Area Court in Kado, on Wednesday ordered that one Sani Ibrahim, an official of the NURTW, be remanded in prison for stealing a wallet.

Ibrahim who resides in Mabushi is charged with joint act and theft.

The Presiding Judge, Mohammed Sadiq, gave the order after going through his records and discovering that the accused had been arraigned in the same court for theft.

Sadiq refused to grant bail to the accused even after he pleaded not guilty to the offence.

"You should know better. You have appeared before me not on one or two but four instances. You are hereby remanded in prison custody because this is the fourth time you will be arraigned before this court. For someone like you, there is no bail,'' he said.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Ibrahim, told the court that one Ekene Bletha of Masalasi in Alagbado, Lagos, lodged a report against the accused at the Utako Police Station on March 28.

Ibrahim said the accused snatched the complainant’s wallet containing N22,000 and passed it to two of his accomplice who ran away with it. He said the offence contravened the provision of Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, Ibrahim is liable to a prison term which may extend to five years with fine or with both.

After the charges were read to him, he pleaded not guilty.
