Sports Obudu Mountain Race: Winners to get $50,000 prize money

Winners of the annual Obudu International Mountain race will be paid $50,000 as their prize money.

Organisers of the event announced that they will be retaining the prize offer in order to continue making it appealing to the athletes taking part in the competition.

So many athletes from across the globe enrolls for the race,with the East Africans having an unrivalled dominance in the competition.

Also,the Local Organising Committee of the event revealed that they will be sticking with the new race course carved out last year for the competition 13km ( men) 9.64km (women)

“The almost flawless organisation of the race and the attractive prize money have ensured the race has continued to attract the best mountain runners in the world to come to Obudu every year,”Cross River State Commissioner for Youth & Sports Patrick Ugbe was quoted as saying on The Punch.

He further added that they stuck with the new race course as it is in conformity with the standards of the World Mountain Race Association(WMRA)

“The course complies with WMRA standards and was prepared by WMRA specialists. The race is one of the major events in the calendar of the WMRA and it has to comply with all the rules governing the sport,” Ugbe added.
